The Lotería de la Ciudad, the sports betting body that regulates The City of Buenos Aires, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA).

The memorandum of understanding was signed by both Martín García Santillán and Federico Cattadori, President and Manager of Gaming and Betting Control of Lotería de la Ciudad.

Khalid Ali, IBIA CEO, said: “IBIA is delighted to have reached an agreement with the Lotería de la Ciudad to work collaboratively to protect sports, consumers, and the regulated betting market from match-fixing.

“The association and its members will analyse the betting on their global markets, which cover over $137bn in sports betting revenue per annum, and work closely with the Lotería de la Ciudad to identify and investigate any suspicious betting activity.”

The deal includes new guidelines for exchanging technical knowledge and sports betting integrity information.

This will allow the IBIA to provide advice on tackling any matters flagged to them by The Lotería de la Ciudad.

The enhanced channels of communication will support The Lotería de la Ciudad as it tackles fraudulent activity under its jurisdiction.

In its Q1 2023 publication, the IBIA reported 105 suspicious alerts in Latin America between 2018 and 2022.

A total of nine of these alerts originated from Argentina, where The Lotería de la Ciudad is based in its capital city of Buenos Aires.

The two sports that had been flagged for potentially fraudulent activity were football and tennis.

Also in LatAm, Galera.bet joined the IBIA in Brazil, following the recently published Provisional Measure by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
