Legislation to approve online sports betting in Louisiana was passed in November 2020, with betting companies able to operate in 55 of the state’s 64 parishes across professional and college-level sporting events.

FanDuel and Boyd Gaming have partnered to offer retail sportsbooks at five physical locations across Louisiana. The new online sportsbook will operate under the licence of one of these locations – the Treasure Chest Casino.

With the addition of its Louisiana sportsbook, FanDuel has live online sports betting operations across 14 states, including in recently launched New York. Wyoming is expected to follow now that it has also legalised the betting format.

Overall, FanDuel has operations across all 50 US states with over 12 million customers. The FanDuel Group, which is a subsidiary of Flutter Entertainment, owns a portfolio of brands across the betting, media and broadcasting industries, including Stardust and TVG.

Earlier this month, the operator signed new partnership deals with the PGA Tour and Buffalo Bills respectively.

Boyd Gaming launched in 1975 and currently has 28 casinos and entertainment properties across 10 US states. The company also owns a 5% equity stake in FanDuel.

In other news related to the launch of online sports betting in Louisiana, affiliate Gambling Group also received approval to operate in the Pelican State, with the company granted a waiver to provide marketing services to operators.
