EveryMatrix CEO: Record esports turnover last week despite Bundesliga return

EveryMatrixCEOInDepth

It was a somewhat muffled comeback for major football at the weekend, with the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A yet to return, and the German Bundesliga reminding us how much of a difference roaring fans make to the atmosphere of a football match.

And, according to the EveryMatrix CEO, the esports betting audience has not been deterred one weekend into the return of major football.

In a LinkedIn post, Groes said: “Football is back! Ok, very partly. But good to see. Now we will soon get to answer one of the hottest esport topics: Will numbers drop as regular sports return?!

“Well, first week with some football back saw no drop in FIFA etc, quite the opposite. We had a new record on esport turnover last week despite Bundesliga taking betting volumes.

“I think this will continue even as sports come back and that operators investing in esport right now will see a long-term effect, not just a short-term one. We’ll know soon.”

At AffiliateCon Virtually Live last week, SickOdds co-founder Tom Wade gave a “hopeful estimate” that 30-40% of the new esports audience will remain with the vertical once live sport returns.
