German Football Association expands partnership with Genius Sports

The German Football Association (DFB) has increased its integrity partnership with Genius Sports to tackle the threats of match-fixing and betting-related misconduct.

Since 2019, Genius Sports has provided the DFB with its Bet Monitoring System, which automatically flags possibly suspect betting behaviour, by analysing global odds fluctuations from over 7,500 games annually using predictive algorithms.

All tiers of German football will continue to be monitored and analysed throughout by the DFB. It is aiming to recognise patterns quicker and raise awareness of hazards to athletes, referees and coaches; by identifying players who have taken part in questionable matches and underlying patterns of betting-related wrongdoing.

A centralised database for all integrity reports will be made available to the DFB through the Genius Sports Intelligence system, which will assist investigations and enable the partnership to be proactive in the study and identification of possible risk areas.

Eva Immerheiser, DFB Integrity Officer, said: “To protect competition integrity in football, it is important for us to work with professional service providers.

“In the continuation of the cooperation with Genius as well as the intelligence upgrade with Clue, we see the opportunity to detect possible illicit patterns faster and to be able to intervene at an early stage. We look forward to working with Genius on a new level.”

Simon Martyn, Director of Rights Enforcement & Integrity at Genius Sports, said: “By expanding our cooperation with the DFB, we will provide rich intelligence, analysis and visibility to help protect the most prestigious football associations in the world.”

Meanwhile, in May, Genius Sports officially collaborated with the European League of Football (ELF) for statistics and streaming.
