Texas Rangers vs. Toronto Blue Jays
The Texas Rangers will send out Jon Gray for today’s showdown against the Blue Jays. Gray has struggled with lefties throughout the season, but throughout the last 30 days, he’s held them to a .062 ISO and wOBA of .207. Meanwhile, he’s been terrific against righties all year, holding them to a .077 ISO and wOBA of .250.
Over the last month, he’s just been more consistent. He won’t add a high rate of strikeouts, but he’s limiting fly balls and keeping walks down.
That should be enough against a Blue Jays offense that has only hit a .165 ISO and wOBA of .325 over the last month against righties.
On the flip side, Jose Berrios will get the call for Toronto. He, too, struggles to get a high rate of strikeouts. However, he’s walked 13.5% over the past month and has allowed a .179 ISO and wOBA of .378 to his last 96 batters. His high walks are a bit random right now. He’s only thrown 7.6% of walks this season and has been good with keeping those down. As long as the walks continue to rise, Berrios will have trouble keeping runs off the board.
The Rangers’ offense has six batters hitting an ISO of at least .167 against righties over the last month. Therefore, we’ll take the Rangers on the road.
Pick: Rangers (+106-112)
Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets
The Atlanta Braves will send out Reynaldo Lopez to try to even the weekend series at two. Lopez is right-handed but has struggled more against lefties this season.
Lopez has allowed a .262 ISO and wOBA of .449 to his last 50 lefties but has held his last 48 righties to a .114 ISO and wOBA of .252. Luckily for Lopez, he’ll be in line to face only three lefties in the Mets lineup. Francisco Lindo and Jeff McNeil have potential, but the other seven batters don’t match up well against Lopez.
Meanwhile, the Mets will ride with David Peterson today. He’s held his last 93 batters to just a .123 ISO and added nearly 57% of ground balls against those 93 batters.
The Mets haven’t lost with Peterson on the mound over the last two months. They’re 8-0 in Peterson’s last eight starters. He’s thrown very well for New York and will take on a Braves lineup with only three batters hitting an ISO of better than .062.
With both lineups limited with potential production, consider the Under 8 for today’s rivalry matchup.
Pick: Under 8 (-108-104)
