Week 2 of the NFL season starts with a Primetime matchup when the Minnesota Vikings visit the defending NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles.

The Vikings enter fresh off a disappointing home loss to the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At the same time, the Eagles eeked out a victory in Foxboro against the formidable defense of the New England Patriots.

The Vikings have garnered respect in the market, as the line for this game has moved a full point in their direction.

Will we see an upset in this Week 2 rematch from last season? Or will the Eagles take care of business yet again??

Below, we’ll look at the betting angle surrounding this game. And be sure to follow me on Twitter as I post or add plays on days we don’t offer a full write-up.

Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles

Details:

  • Opening Line: O/U: 48 |MIN +7.5
  • Current Line: O/U: 49| MIN +6.5

Overview:

The Eagles enter this game without two key starters: running back Kenneth Gainwell and cornerback James Bradberry.

Safety Reed Blankenship has also been ruled out, so the Eagles’ secondary will be thin — a problem against the likes of receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. However, Darius Slay is healthy and held Jefferson to one catch for seven yards last season, so not all hope is lost.

Despite a banged-up secondary, the Eagles have one of the best pass-rushing groups in the NFL. They should be able to pressure Kirk Cousins — especially with a hobbled left tackle, Christian Darrisaw, and starting center Garret Bradbury already ruled out.

The Vikings’ secondary is talented but will have their hands full with A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert underneath.

Trends:

  • Minnesota is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 7 of Minnesota’s last 9 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Philadelphia’s last 6 games

Bottom Line:

With the Eagles’ secondary depleted and both teams possessing explosive offensive weapons, we should see fireworks in this one. Look for the total in this one to exceed 49, as these offenses find themselves in a shootout.

The Pick: Over 49 (-110)
